ATM Gallery NYC is pleased to present My Thoughts Tell Me Tales, London-based artist Soimadou Ibrahim's first solo exhibition.
Taking inspiration from a song by the Tuareg group Tinariwen, My Thoughts Tell Me Tales depicts pockets of cherished memories which at first glance may appear ordinary or without substance, yet in truth are personal, each reflecting a unique tale.
Through these works, the artist highlights the luxury of life’s simple pleasures, such as a mother peeling a freshly picked orange for her son or a young father-to-be having his last smoke; intimate moments he holds close.
These paintings reaffirm the persistence and the timelessness of memories, encouraging each of us to preserve our own.
Soimadou Ibrahim (French, b. 1989) explores and re-examines family memories by representing cherished moments of life in Itsinkoudi, a remote village in Ngazidja the biggest island of the Comoros archipelago, where Ibrahim's grand mother and most of his family still live.
