ATM Gallery NYC is pleased to present “Heavy Enough to Sink”, a solo exhibition of twenty-one drawings and two paintings by Jess Valice. Born 1996 in San Fernando Valley, California, Valice initially studied and pursued a career in Biopsychology. Eventually her long-running interest and meditation on humans and our ways of self-expression found form in portraits. Inspired by the emotionally exhausting journey of contemporary culture—filled with inspirations in online forums or California cowboys; mass-produced cultural objects or Old Master paintings—Valice creates unique and enigmatic figures who are simultaneously impenetrable and relatable in the same moment. Valice took part in SPRING/BREAK Art Show 2020 and has als exhibited at The Pit, Wilding Cran Gallery, The Lodge in Los Angeles and Library Street Collective in Detroit. Her work has been digitally featured in platforms such as Amadeus Magazine and Art of Choice.
